Equip

Gear that attaches to a unit

Most gear stays in your base and does its own thing. Some gear is made to be carried: you put it on one of your units, and the unit gets stronger.

Doran's Blade, a gear with Equip
A gear with Equip, and a +2 gear bonus

says "Equip body (body: Attach this to a unit you control.)" That's : an activated ability whose cost comes after the word, here 1 Body Power.

Attaching

To the Blade to a unit, slide it under the unit so its text and gear bonus still show. From then on, the unit has the gear's bonus added to its Might, and its text as well. The Blade's bonus is +2, so a 3 unit with the Blade attached has 5.

The gear goes wherever the unit goes. Move the unit to a battlefield, and the Blade goes too.

Using Equip

  1. Play the gear first. It goes to your base, ready, and nothing is attached yet.
  2. Use its Equip, like any activated ability: in your main phase, with nothing on the chain. Choose one of your units, in your base or at a battlefield, and pay the cost.
  3. It goes on the chain, so your opponent can answer it.
  4. When it resolves, the gear attaches to the unit you chose.

If that unit is gone by then, the Equip does nothing, and the cost is paid anyway. But the gear is still in your base, and you can Equip it again to another unit.

Try it

Equip a gear, lose the unit you aimed it at, and equip it again.
