Holding and conquering

The two ways a battlefield earns you a point

A battlefield earns you a point in two ways.

  • Conquer it. Take control of it, by winning a showdown or a combat there.
  • Still have it when your turn starts. Near the start of each of your turns, you get 1 point for each battlefield you control. Controlling a battlefield at the start of your turn is to it.

Each of these is a way to the battlefield, and scoring a battlefield gets you 1 point.

Once a turn

You can score each battlefield only once a turn. Hold your battlefield at the start of your turn, lose it in a fight, and take it back on the same turn: that's one point, not two. The battlefield was already scored this turn when you took it back.

But the two battlefields are separate. Hold one at the start of your turn, then conquer the other, and that's two points in one turn.

Holding only happens on your own turn. Still having a battlefield when your opponent's turn starts earns you nothing: they're the one who scores then, if they hold any.

When a battlefield scores

Many cards do something when you score. says "When you hold here, draw 1." A unit that says "When I conquer" does its thing when its battlefield is conquered with it there.

Note

"Score" means two things on cards. "Score 1 point" just gives you a point, from anywhere. "When you score" means when you conquer or hold a battlefield.
