1. Getting started
Setting up a game
What you bring to a game, and how it starts
Your deck is built around one character, and one card stands for them. It sits
in its own spot for the whole game and never leaves it. Its ability helps you
all game long, and the symbols in its top left corner (
on ) decide which cards your deck can
include. That card is your .
Your legend comes with a card you can play: a version of the same character. It starts the game in the spot next to your legend instead of in your deck, and you can play it from there just like a card in your hand. That card is your . It has to share your legend's character: is a Jinx legend, so your champion is one of the Jinx champion cards, such as .
You can have more champions than that one, too. Your main deck can hold up to 2 more copies of your champion, for 3 in all, and you draw and play those like any other card. It can also have champion cards of other characters, as long as they fit your legend's symbols.

What you bring
- Your legend, the one card your deck is built around.
- A main deck of at least 40 cards, counting your champion. You can have up to 3 copies of any one card.
- A rune deck of exactly 12 cards.
- Three battlefields. Only one of them is used each game.
Starting a game
- Put your legend and champion in their spots.
- Pick one of your three battlefields at random and set the other two aside. Both of you put your battlefield between you at the same time.
- Shuffle your main deck and your rune deck, separately, and put them in their spots.
- Decide at random who goes first.
- Each of you draws 4 cards.
- Each of you can swap some of those cards, starting with whoever goes first.
- The first player takes their turn.
The swap works like this: set aside up to 2 cards from your hand, draw that many, then put the ones you set aside on the bottom of your main deck. That's your . You get one, and you can always keep your hand as it is.
